Rigging Claims: Legge’s Rockingham Crash Investigated – Everything You Need to Know

International road racing veteran Katherine Legge is having a challenging time in her debut season with NASCAR this year.

During qualifying at Rockingham Speedway, Legge and Dawson Cram did not make the lineup for the North Carolina Education Lottery 250. This was because the last six spots in the 38-car race were given out based on owner points. After the lineup was set on Saturday, Legge approached J.J. Yeley, who had qualified in 31st place, and took over his car.

Legge began the race at the back of the field because of the driver swap. She got taken out of the race on lap 52 when William Sawalich bumped into her Chevrolet from behind while lapping her in the first turn. This caused her to spin and collide with Kasey Kahne, who was also lapping her. Legge was knocked out of the race, while Kahne finished in 15th place and Sawalich in 26th.

Legge came in last during the overtime race, finishing 50 laps out of 256.

This race marked the beginning of a newly announced 12-race NASCAR schedule for the rest of 2025.

Later, Legge shared a message on X (formerly Twitter):

“I’m extremely proud of this team! We managed to achieve a fast enough lap time in qualifying that would have placed me comfortably in the race if it weren’t for Owner Points provisional. That’s why my sponsors and partners supported me to ensure I got the track time I promised everyone. They truly believe in me and our program. Sadly, I couldn’t do anything about Sawalich getting too close to my car, which took me and some others out of the race. Thank you to Joey Gase Racing, Jordan Anderson, J.J. Yeley, e.l.f. Cosmetics, and Team Chevy for your support. I’ll see you all at Talladega!”
